Bloomberg: Ray Ban owner EssilorLuxottica to boost Nikon stake

Bloomberg News reports EssilorLuxottica is considering a potential deal to raise its stake in Japanese optical equipment manufacturer Nikon Corp. The Franco-Italian maker of Ray-Ban glasses is looking to increase its Nikon stake to around 20% from the nearly 9% it currently holds.Discussions are taking place but there is no certainty a transaction will materialize, according to the same sources, Bloomberg said.

In other Nikon news, Nikon will close its Yokohama Plant (Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture) on Sept. 30, 2025. The plant’s functions will be relocated to the Head Office/Innovation Center (Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo), Yokosuka Plant (Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture), and Sagamihara Plant (Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture).

The impact of this closure on the business performance forecast for this fiscal year is expected to be minor, the company said.
